The Netherlands Became The Gate for Indonesia Coffee Export

The potential for Indonesian coffee exports in the Netherlands is still quite large. This was conveyed by the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) for the Netherlands Mayerfas. However, the realization of coffee exports to the Netherlands has not yet reached one percent.

“The Netherlands are famous as coffee drinkers. We only just entered this market, so we don’t have one percent yet. It’s still 6 million US dollars,” said Mayerfas at the Indonesian Embassy to the Netherlands in Den Haag (06/09/2023).

Reported by republica.co.id, the potential for coffee exports to the Netherlands reaches 1.3 billion USD. Meanwhile, actual exports have only reached 6 million US dollars. This is because the Netherlands coffee market is still dominated by other countries, such as Colombia and Brazil.

“Our coffee is high quality, but the price is also high. Our Arabica is good and is widely used as a coffee blend here,” explained Mayerfas.

Apart from the relatively high price, Indonesian coffee has difficulty competing due to logistic problems. Therefore, the government continues to strive to increase sales of Indonesian coffee in the Netherlands.

“Actually, it has increased. We just want to improve it further so we can compete,” he added.

Not only coffee, Mayerfas is optimistic that Indonesian – Netherlands trade will continue to increase. This also reviews the background of the long-standing Indonesian and the Netherlands relations. The Netherlands is also the door for Indonesian exports to enter the European market.
