Tanjung Ular Port Will Function for Palm Oil & Tin Transport

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) visited the Tanjung Snake Port infrastructure project in Bangka Belitung, Indonesia. The construction of the port has reached its final stage. In the future, the port will be used specifically to transport Bangka Belitung’s mainstay commodities outside the island. Starting from processed palm oil or CPO and also tin.

“We see the progress of the construction of the Tanjung Ular Port in Bangka Belitung province. It’s finished, 99%. It’s just the final finishing,” Jokowi explained in a statement that was broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube account (20/10/2022).

Reported by finance.detik.com, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, who also accompanied Jokowi, said that when it started to operate, the port would be managed by the Ministry of Transportation first. In the future, the management of the port will be given to the Regional Government.

“The temporary management is carried out by the Ministry of Transportation. Because this is a passenger port, it can be donated to the regional government. It must be accompanied first so that the management is carried out properly,” Budi explained.

Jokowi also stated the same thing. He explained that when the Regional Government was deemed ready to manage Tanjung Ular Port, the port management by the Ministry of Transportation would be withdrawn.

“Initially the management was carried out by the Ministry of Transportation and then later the Regional Government would accompany it. If it felt ready, the ministry resigned and was taken over by the Regional Government. I think that is good for all ports because this is a feeder port,” he added.
