The Plantation Sector Must Have Priority Commodities

The plantation sector of Indonesia must have priority commodities. This was conveyed by Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo. He explained that the plantation sector had contributed 485.16 trillion rupiah in 2022. This achievement was up 7.29% compared to the previous year.

“Indeed, we must be focused and directed in developing plantations. And the plantation must have priority on commodities to be increased. Therefore, efficient use of resources must be measured to set targets and goals. All farmers must unite in this corporation,” he said (20/11/2022).

According to wartaekonomi.co.id, Syahrul explained that Indonesian plantations are a world window that has great power. Especially for Indonesia’s economic growth. Therefore, Syahrul wants products from the plantation sector to reach the world market. Starting from coffee, chocolate, and so on.

“I’m sure Indonesian plantations will one day be the greatest plantations. Indonesian plantations are a window for all companies in the world that need cocoa and coffee from Indonesia,” said Syahrul.

To support the plantation sector, priority programs are carried out. According to Andi Nur Alam Syah, Director General of Plantation of the Ministry of Agriculture, explained that there are seven priority programs that are oriented to the future. One of them is Plantation Seed Logistics (BUN500) which consists of strengthening nursery and independent seedlings.

“Then we have the Participatory Plantation program or PASTI which consists of increasing the capacity of the pandan fragrant coconut maturing business, then the Cooking Oil Mini Factory program or PAMIGO,” said Andi.

For the coffee commodity, there is a Plantation Ecosystem program (EKSIS) through the Coffee Corporation (Java Preanger Lestari Mandiri-JPLM). As for oil palm, there is People’s Oil Palm Rejuvenation (PSR) through the oil palm intercropping food crop (Ksatria) program. With these programs, Andi believes that Indonesia can progress further through the plantation sector.

“We believe plantations are a harmonious chain that is in line with the expectations of the people and nation of Indonesia. This is the time for plantations to build strength to answer the challenges ahead,” he added.
