The Ministry of Agriculture Improve the Commodities Quality

The Ministry of Agriculture will improve the quality of Indonesia’s plantation commodities. This improvement is carried out to strengthen and maintain the quality of plantation commodities, such as seasonal crops and spices. This step was conveyed by the Director General of Plantations Andi Nur Alam Syah at the 2023 Seasonal Plants and Herbs Development Coordination activities in Bogor.

“This activity is intended to coordinate, synchronize and accelerate plantation development activities. The preparation for this development activity is carried out between the central government and the implementer of activities in the regions. So as to achieve the development of plantations that are advanced, independent and modern. Especially for seasonal crops and spices in 2023,” explained Andi (19/03/2023).

According to agrofarm.co.id, The Central Bureau of Statistics recorded the performance of Exports of Plantation Commodities as the biggest contributor to Agricultural commodities. The value of plantation exports increased compared to the previous year. The highest plantation exports were recorded at IDR 74.46 trillion in August 2022.

“This positive achievement shows that the opportunity for exports of plantation commodities as a source of foreign exchange is still increasing. Even though we are still in the midst of the Covid 19 outbreak that is sweeping the world,” he said.

Plantation Commodities in the New Era

Andi added that the era of digitalization and technological advances played a role in developing plantations. One of them is Bioindustrial Plantation. These plantations are developed with modern technology that uses superior varieties, efficient, effective, integrative, zero waste, eco friendly, and so on.

Andi explained that his party had launched a main program in order to realize Bioindustrial Plantations. Among them is the Plantation Seed Logistics Program (BUN500) through strengthening independent seed nurseries and the area-based commodity program. Examples are the Annual and Refreshing Plants Area, as well as the Annuals and Spices Area.

“To achieve the intended target certainly can not be done alone. We must collaborate and synergize with various efforts. Among them is by increasing exports of plantation commodities in 2023. Such as coffee, cocoa, coconut, rubber, cinnamon, pepper and nutmeg. Through regional development and concrete efforts in a more measurable manner,” he added.
