Rice and Spices Festival Promotes Indonesia’s Potential to the World

Yayasan Negeri Rempah together with Yayasan Taut Seni will hold a Spice & Rice Festival on November 11-16, 2022 at the Bali Collection, ITDC, Nusa Dua, Bali. Through this festival, the Chairman of Yayasan Negeri Rempah Kumoratih Kushardjanto hopes to promote Indonesian rice and spices potential to the world level.

“We want to show the world that Indonesia has cultural values that deserve to be contributed to the world to end hunger, achieve food security and better nutrition, and support sustainable development goals that are inclusive, equitable and just for all,” said Kumoratih in a statement. official (31/10/2022).

According to Republika.co.id, Kumoratih said that rice is a source of food that has been cultivated by humans since the Neolithic era, with at least 8,000 species growing in Indonesia. Meanwhile, among more than 400 types of spices in the world, 275 species are grown in Indonesia. He also explained that the use of spices is not only as a spice, but also as a medicinal ingredient.

Looking at the diversity and its uses, Kumoratih said that rice and spices can become important commodities for Indonesian trade from time to time. This was also approved by the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ma’ruf Amin. He felt that Indonesian spices were widely known in the world.

“I hope there is indeed a spice route. We are a country with a lot of spices, but it seems that now there is nothing that manages it,” said Ma’ruf at the Indonesia Sharia Economic Festival (ISEF) 2022 Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Jakarta Selatan (6/10/2022).

Reported by cnnindonesia.com, Ma’ruf Amin also wanted a spice route in Indonesia to be opened as wide as possible. This desire arose after Ma’ruf Amin saw that the handling of spices in Indonesia had not been carried out optimally.

The Spice and Rice Festival is part of the side event of the G20 meeting forum which is coordinated by the Indonesian Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs. The festival is in line with the G20 side event theme, namely “Local Wisdom for Global Sustainability”. This activity aims to support the movement of Indonesian communities and small business actors to increase opportunities for people’s economic progress.
