Rainfall Affects Freeport Operational Targets

Rainfall in PT Freeport Indonesia (Freeport) Tembagapura mine area caused mining activities to be stopped. In anticipation of the weather, PTFI targets mining operations to resume at the end of February 2023 (20/02/2023).

According to industri.kontan.co.id, Freeport President Director Tony Wenas revealed that efforts to improve and improve are still being carried out. Even though operations are scheduled to be fully operational at the end of February, Tony ensures that his party is trying to get operations running earlier.

“We will try to be faster, there are two parts for grinding, hopefully one can run first,” said Tony.

It should be noted, the impact rain season has resulted in some mill-concentrating factory locations experiencing mudflow. In addition, several sections of the mine road were damaged.

From the production side, Freeport is targeting copper production of 1,603 billion pounds this year. This amount has increased from the realization in 2022 which amounted to 1,600 billion pounds. Meanwhile, this year’s gold production was set at 1,809 million ounces, an increase from the 2022 achievement of 1,795 million ounces.
