Indonesia has great agricultural potential. Coupled with today’s global food conditions, agricultural commodities also have a great opportunity to dominate the international market. This condition was reflected in the “One Day with Indonesian Coffee, Fruits, Floriculture (ODICOFF)” event which was held at The Ven Embassy Row Washington DC 2015 Massachusetts Avenue NW, Washington DC (11/10/2022).
Reported by merdeka.com, Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo said that the quality of agricultural commodities and their derivative products was a requirement to penetrate the international market. Therefore, the ministry continues to strengthen the empowerment of farmers to produce superior products.
“Technology and innovation are the main keys. Those two aspects will develop a sustainable agriculture and food system,” he said.
Syahrul also emphasized the importance of global collaboration to overcome the food crisis that threatens many countries. He explained that as part of the global community, the G20 is committed to supporting the crucial role of the agricultural sector. Especially in providing food and nutrition for everyone.
“This includes ensuring inclusive and sustainable economic development. Don’t let anyone be left behind, leaving no one behind,” he replied.
In addition, the Director General of PSP of the Ministry of Agriculture Ali Jamil gave another example with coffee commodities. Ali said that Indonesian coffee commodities are favored by the international market. In the ODICOFF event, it was seen that several people were very interested in the development of Indonesian coffee.
Ali also explained that the development of coffee farmers’ corporations in Bandung Regency was considered very well targeted. To increase the productivity and quality of Java Preanger coffee, the development of the downstream program for coffee continues to be carried out by using certified superior coffee seeds, coffee cultivation that is in accordance with GAP and GMP, and is environmentally friendly.
“Through the coffee planting movement which was initiated in early 2022 in Bandung Regency by the Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo, it is also hoped that it will be a long-term solution to support the supply of coffee raw materials as a farmer’s corporate business,” he said.
ODICOFF is a program that visits various countries in order to encourage exports of agricultural products. 2022 will be the second year of the event. This year the Directorate General of Facilities and Infrastructure (PSP) of the Ministry of Agriculture acts as the host and organizer of the event.
