Indonesian Coffee Secured Transactions For Taiwan

Indonesia again participated in the Taichung International Tea, Wine, Coffee and Bakery Show exhibition in Taipei, Taiwan. Head of KDEI Taipei Iqbal Shofwan said Indonesia managed to reap transactions of USD 2.66 million or IDR 39.81 billion.

“This proves that Indonesian coffee products are increasingly getting a place in the Taiwanese market,” he explained in a press release from the Ministry of Trade (14/06/2023).

Reported by bisnis.tempo.co, Iqbal revealed that in the last two decades, the coffee market in Taiwan has continued to grow. This increases the demand for coffee and creates opportunities for buyers of coffee commodities, including Indonesia.

Based on KDEI records, in 2022 Indonesia’s coffee exports to Taiwan will reach US$ 17.34 million. This figure rose 21.36 percent from the previous year. Coffee exports from Indonesia are equivalent to 6.2 percent of Taiwan’s total imports. However, export competition to Taiwan is increasingly colliding with coffee competition from South America and Africa.

Therefore, KDEI Taipei plans to encourage sales of Indonesian coffee to the Taiwan market. This plan was one of the reasons KDEI Taipei was present at the Taichung exhibition. Iqbal explained that the purpose of this plan was to maintain and improve the existing market.

KDEI Plan For Taiwan Market

This year, the Indonesian Pavilion uses the theme “One Step Further”. The Indonesian Pavilion presents a variety of products, including coffee beans, tea, herbs, chocolate, and coffee mixed with herbs.

This diversity shows that Indonesia is not only a supplier of coffee beans, but also has a variety of processed coffee products. Among them are green beans and roasting beans under the AWI coffee, Bencoolen, Tanamera, Aro Mas Mulia, and EOE brands.
