Indonesian Coffee Remains on the Global Stage

Indonesia continues to improve the productivity and quality of their coffee. It was followed by the development of coffee agribusiness at the downstream level, such as coffee cafes that kept popping up. This development is not only happening in the country, but also on the global stage.

According to bisnis.solopos.com, Indonesia received the title of “World Coffee Heaven” by the specialty coffee community in the United States (US). It was given after the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) exhibition was held in 2015.

At the exhibition, Indonesia displayed 39 local coffee variants. Among them, the nine best variants were presented in the coffee cupping activity for the visitors who came to enjoy.

“Because of the many variants of our coffee, Indonesia has received a new title as a world coffee paradise,” said the Indonesian Trade Attache for Washington DC, Ni Made Ayu Marthini, in a press release.

This title strengthens Indonesia’s position as a major player in the global coffee industry. In the last five years, coffee production in Indonesia has increased. The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) records that Indonesia’s coffee production reached 794.8 thousand tons in 2022. This figure has increased by around 1.1% compared to the previous year.
