Indonesia Exports 2 Billion USD of Food Materials to Japan

The export value of Indonesian food materials to Japan reaches 2 billion USD. This figure is the value of food exports to Japan for September 2022. This figure also places the value of exports to Japan in third place, after China and the United States.

Reported by merdeka.com, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) just stopped exporting coal two weeks ago. However, he was surprised to learn that other countries have a dependence on Indonesian products outside of mining products. He explained that these countries are dependent on Indonesian agricultural products.

“Oh, it depends. It really depends. But how come there are so many (countries) that are dependent on us (Indonesia)? I’m surprised too,” he said at the Kompas 100 CEO Forum 2022 event at the State Palace, Jakarta (2/12/2022).

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency, the value of exports to Japan for Indonesia’s non-oil and gas products reached USD 2.09 billion in the period January – September 2022. In the same period, the value of exports to Japan for oil and gas only reached 51. 4 million USD. These non-oil and gas products consist of vegetables, fruit, coffee, fisheries, seaweed, butter, bread and cakes.

In addition, spices are also the most exported goods by Indonesia to Japan. Spices are used by the Japanese as seasonings, medicinal and aromatic plants. One of the spices exported is pepper. White pepper was exported as much as 824 tons or USD 6.28 million. Meanwhile, black pepper was exported as much as 216 tons or equivalent to USD 1.17 million.

Japan also imported 404 kilograms of tea from Indonesia. For processed coffee and tea, Japan imported 2,011 tons. In addition, Japan also imports many ornamental plants.
