Corn Sales in Lebak Regency Reaches 2 Million USD

Corn sales in Lebak Regency reached 2 million USD or the equivalent of 40 billion IDR. The Lebak Regency Agriculture Service recorded this figure as a sales transaction for corn production from January to October 2022.

“The revenue of 40 billion IDR comes from the production of 10,000 tons of corn at the price of shelled seeds of IDR 4,000 per kilogram,” said the Head of the Lebak Regency Production Division, Deni Iskandar at Lebak Regency, Banten (21/11/2022).

Reported by republika.co.id, Deni explained that the corn farming business is very profitable for the economic income of farmers. Especially with the price of corn which is at IDR 4,000 per kilogram. So if the harvest productivity is four tons, it can produce IDR 40 million per hectare.

He added that the corn production of the Lebak Regency farmers came from a harvest of 2,720 hectares. The harvest is then accommodated by livestock companies, such as PT Charoen Phohphand in Balaraja, Jaffa in Serang, a company in Sukabumi, and a company in Lampung.

“We estimate that the corn planting rate in November-December 2022 will be 1,300 hectares and the harvest will be in February 2023,” said Deni. He added that corn farming is now the mainstay of the Lebak Regency farmers’ economy. It is estimated that the planting expansion will continue until December 2022.

Deni said that Lebak Regency could realize self-sufficiency in corn because of the support of a large area of land. One of them comes from cooperation with BUMN for land use. For example, at Perum Perhutani with an intercropping system.

“We planted the corn because there was a company that accommodated it,” said Ahmad, a farmer from Cileles District, Lebak Regency. He feels reassured knowing that his corn production can be directly channeled.
