Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo symbolically dispatched 4,500 tons of Brebes shallots to Thailand. It was carried out at the shallot warehouse in Klampok Village, Wanasari District, Brebes (09/08/2023).
Reported by detik.com, Syahrul explained that the shallot commodity is the strength of agricultural commodities in Indonesia. Shallot production reaches hundreds of thousands tons per year. This commodity not only meets national needs, but also for export quota.
“The onion market is wide open both domestically and abroad. We hope that this will help farmers so that prices do not drop because of the big harvest,” said Syahrul.

The Indonesian Shallot Association (ABMI) said shallots export has reached 4,500 tons. The shallots come from various farmer groups in Brebes.
“There are 1,500 tons from Beni Santoso, and around 3,000 tons from the Champion Group. The shipment will be carried out gradually until next November,” explained ABMI Chairman Juwari.
He explained that during the main harvest, shallot is abundant in the market. By exporting this commodity to Thailand, it will stabilize the price. This is because commodities will not only accumulate in regional markets.
The head of the Champion Farmers Group, Dian Alex Chandra, explained that his group already has an export contract to Thailand. This contract includes 108 containers or 3,000 tons of shallot. This commodity is taken from several regional onion production centers such as Brebes, Sumbawa, Bima and Probolinggo.
He emphasized that these exports could provide a decent price for shallot farmers. At the current farmer level, onions are valued at IDR 15,000 to IDR 18,000 per kilogram (kg). Then, for export quality purchased at a price of Rp 21 thousand per kg.
