Ngawi Farmers Hold The First Corn Festival

Ngawi farmers hold the Corn Festival 2023. This festival is held in Karanganyar District, Ngawi Regency, East Java by farmers who are members of the Forest Village Community Organization (LMDH). The Corn Festival 2023 was held as a form of gratitude for a bountiful harvest.
Reported by Antaranews.com, data from the Ngawi Regency Food Security and Agriculture Service noted that Karanganyar District was able to contribute 20 percent of corn productivity in Ngawi. This data also records a land area of 5,430 hectares and a yield of 40,207 tonnes corn. All of these lands are under forest stands and in collaboration with Perum Perhutani KPH Ngawi.
Overall, corn production in Ngawi currently reaches 243,029 tonnes of shelled dry corn. With a planting area of 31,611 hectares.
“I really appreciate this abundant corn harvest. This Corn Festival activity is a form of gratitude as well as an annual activity that has become a tradition and is able to attract community interest,” said Deputy Regent of Ngawi Dwi Rianto Jatmiko while attending the 2023 Corn Festival (04/06/2023) .
According to him, the Government of Ngawi Regency continues to encourage farmers on the edge of the forest in the local area to plant corn. Especially when entering the dry planting season with minimal supply of irrigation water. There is also assistance in the form of an oven to maximize corn drying during the rainy season.
For information, this is the first time Corn Festival being held. This festival is celebrated with various activities. One of them is by burning a statue of a rat pest. So, this activity is a symbolic form that farmers are able to overcome rat pests.
