73,490 Hectares of Corn in East Nusa Tenggara Ready for Harvest

Governor of East Nusa Tenggara Province (NTT) Viktor Bungtilu Laiskodat said there were 73,940 hectares of corn ready for harvest. This corn has gone through the Cattle Harvest Corn Planting (TJPS) program in South Central Timor District. It is estimated that the land will produce as much as 172,701 tons of corn.
“We have symbolically harvested the corn plants of the CSR program in TTS Regency. In an area of five hectares,” Viktor said in a written statement from the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Secretariat Leadership Administration Bureau (16/04/2023).
Reported by antaranews.com, Viktor symbolically harvested the corn. He did it in Hamlet IV, Saimei Village, Toineke Village, Kualin District, South Central Timor Regency. The corn comes from the TJPS program with a period October 2022 – March 2023.
TJPS Program
According to him, the TJPS program is the flagship program of the NTT government. TJPS program considered to build the agricultural sector in driving the community’s economy. He explained that if corn continues to be optimized, then the people will prosper with economic income from corn harvest.
“The corn plant is a plant that is very suitable for soil culture in NTT. It does not require a lot of water. So it can grow well,” he explained.
Head of the Food Crops and Horticulture Division of the NTT Province Agriculture and Food Security Service Nixon Balukh also gave his opinion. He explained that the realization of planting corn in NTT Province through the TJPS program in 2022 reached 289,970 hectares. Followed by TTS Regency itself, which was realized in an area of 74,281 hectares.
“For the TJPS partnership pattern in 2022, the target is 105,000 hectares. The realization of planting is 101,356 hectares through the TJPS partnership pattern based on independent micro credit, Bank NTT. Those based on non-credit and TTS Regency, covering an area of 23,547 hectares,” he explained.
